Blood Flow Restriction Training

Blood-flow restriction training uses a blood pressure cuff to occlude venous outflow of blood

Blood-flow restriction training uses a blood pressure cuff to occlude venous outflow of blood within the muscle while maintaining arterial inflow of blood to the muscle. This results in a pooling of blood in the muscle. Ultimately this creates a hypoxic event in the muscle which in turn generates a greater production of growth hormones and stimulants. The end result is that this type of training allows us to mimic lifting heavier weights with lighter loads. Patients can make greater strength training gains without over stressing healing tissue. This type of training is especially useful in post operative patients who are working to regain their strength.
